Hello Evelyn! This is a very interesting question. If the mushrooms that you are referring to happen to be yellow, you are most likely dealing with Leucocoprinus birnbaumii. It is quite common for these mushrooms to grow alongside houseplants and the good news is they are not parasitic, but saprotrophic. This means that they feed on organic matter such as dead roots, decaying potting material, insects, etc. This is not harming your plants and it can actually benefit them as the mushrooms will break down the large bits of decaying matter in the potting mix and turn them into organic matter that the plants can absorb.
If the mushrooms in question are not yellow and look nothing like the ones that I described above it’s best to do some extra research and see what type of mushroom you are dealing with.
